Steelers’ updated cap space after full Aaron Rodgers contract details revealed

The full contract details for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers have been revealed, and we now know how much cap space the team has left.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Rodgers’ one-year deal has a base salary of $13.65 million and includes $10 million fully guaranteed.

The contract also includes $5.85 million in incentives, which gives him a chance to make a total of $19.5 million in 2025.

Rodgers will get an extra $1.5 million if he wins the MVP award in 2025, and can earn another $4.35 million in playoff incentives. However, in order to qualify for any of those incentives, he must play 70% of the snaps during the regular season.

Here’s a full breakdown of the incentives:

  • $500,000 if the Steelers make the playoffs.
  • $600,000 for a wild-card round win with 50% play-time in the game OR a first-round bye.
  • $750,000 for a divisional round win with 50% play-time in the game.
  • $1 million for AFC title game win with 50% play-time in the game.
  • $1.5 million for Super Bowl win with 50% play-time in the game.
  • $1.5 million for winning the AP MVP award.

According to Over the Cap, the Steelers are now sitting with $18.8 million in cap space with Rodgers’ contract included.

While Rodgers was the biggest missing piece for the Steelers, he isn’t the last one.

After trading away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, the Steelers are short at the wide receiver position behind DK Metcalf, with questionable options like Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods all behind him.

With the $18.8 million in cap space, the Steelers have enough money to make a wide receiver move, either via trade or free agency.

Reports suggest the Steelers have been on the lookout for a trade to add another playmaker, and there are also guys like Keenan Allen, Gabe Davis and Amari Cooper still available in free agency.

Davis in particular is someone the Steelers have met with. He certainly wouldn’t be the most ideal acquisition, but would be better than nothing.
