Mike Tomlin had to know the questions were coming.

The Steelers coach was at the league meetings on Sunday, and at his press availability, he was asked about Pittsburgh’s pursuit of Aaron Rodgers in free agency.

Tomlin didn’t get too deep into it, but he also didn’t dampen the flames much.

Specifically asked about Rodgers’ visit to Pittsburgh, Tomlin had some kind thoughts.

“It was a really good day,” Tomlin told reporters. “Specifically, he and I have known of each other for some time, so it was really good to spend some time together and get to know each other more intimately. It is free agency, it is a process, I have nothing of any more significance to add other than that.”

Pittsburgh is keeping its options open, though.

“Obviously, we’re still evaluating the acquisition of a guy at that position, whether it’s free agency or through the draft,” Tomlin said. So, we’re doing our due diligence. Communicating with some free agents. Also preparing for the draft.”

The Steelers have added one QB this offseason in the form of old friend Mason Rudolph.

“We’re optimistic about the room that we’re constructing,” Tomlin said. “Obviously, we’re excited about having Mason Rudolph back. Not only our knowledge of him as a player, but as a man. We’re excited to have him back and I know he’s excited to be back.”

Tomlin doesn’t plan on being surprised no matter what winds up happening in the Steelers pursuit of a starting quarterback.

“I’ve learned over the years to be light on my feet in terms of an anticipation perspective, so I don’t know that I’m shocked by anything,” Tomlin said.
