It might be a while until the Pittsburgh Steelers and superstar pass rusher T.J. Watt see eye to eye.

But at least based on one report, the Steelers are trying to get a deal done with Watt, whose contract expires after this season.

Mark Kaboly, The Pat McAafee Show’s Steelers correspondent, has reported that there’s a contract offer on the table.

“I’m under the belief that there is a contract offer on the table right now — which is pretty significant.” Kaboly said. “However, it’s probably not what [Watt] thinks it is.”

The money might be a long way off.

“Yes. I’m not one hundred percent sure on that, but it’s not like they’re offering him, you know, $15 million and ‘Hey, you’re playing for the Steelers, so take it right now.’ There is an offer on the table.” Kaboly said.

Watt is almost certainly seeking the four-year, $160 million deal Myles Garrett got earlier this offseason from the Cleveland Browns.

It remains to be seen whether the Steelers will pay him that much, though.

Watt is on the wrong side of 30 and just declined to 11.5 sacks in 17 games in 2024.

The eight-year veteran is still a force at creating havoc, but it’s safe to expect he’s closer to his decline than to some unexpected career upswing.

Watt’s career in Pittsburgh has likely earned one more massive payday, but if the Steelers are more interested in paying for future production, it may be tough to reach the perfect compromise.
