Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is coming off the best season of his career.
The former second-round pick led the NFL in yards per reception (22.7) while posting career-high marks in receiving yards (824) and touchdowns (seven).
It’s unlikely the Colts are considering parting ways with the talented deep threat, but Alex Koroza of Steelers Depot named Pierce as a potential trade target for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Pierce has size and playmaking ability as an outside threat the Steelers are searching for to replace Pickens. Pierce certainly doesn’t win in the same way but he has a similar impact. If the Colts like the other young receivers they have, if guys like Downs and especially Mitchell develop, Pierce could become expendable,” Koroza wrote. “On the last year of his rookie deal, his price tag shouldn’t be costly and Pittsburgh could get back a 2027 comp pick even if Pierce leaves in free agency after the season.”
It would be a surprise to see the Colts part ways with Pierce, especially considering the Steelers are a prime competitor for a wild-card spot.
If the Colts want to end their four-year playoff drought, they are going to need all the weapons they can get on the offensive side of the ball.
Furthermore, the connection with Anthony Richardson is something the Colts should be leaning into rather than shying away from.
Anything can happen in the NFL, but it would take an overpay from Pittsburgh in order for the Colts to part ways with Pierce.
