Stars’ Matt Duchene gets huge million contract update

The Dallas Stars appear to be better at extending their players than the Dallas Cowboys.

The Stars wasted no time getting star forward Matt Duchene signed to a new contract.

They announced on Thursday that Duchene has signed a four-year extension that is worth $18 million ($4.5 million AAV) and will run through 2028-29.

“We are thrilled to have Matt back with our organization,” GM Jim Nill said in a release. “As our team’s leading scorer last season, he helped to solidify our forward group while also providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community. The fit with Matt and our team has been seamless from the start, and we’re looking forward to continuing to pursue our shared goal of bringing a championship to Dallas.”

Duchene is 34 years old and just had an 82-point season in 82 games. He tallied 30 goals and a career-high 52 assists.

It was an exciting season for Duchene, who tallied his 500th career assist in February and added six points in the playoffs as the Stars reached their third consecutive Western Conference Final.

Duchene has 891 career points in 1,138 games spent form Colorado to Ottawa to Columbus to Nashville to Dallas.

He’s a two-time All-Star, and should be a key piece of the Stars moving forward as they try and get back to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Now that this order of business is done, the Stars can keep building around its stars to try and clear the final hurdle or two.
