Stanley Cup winners by team: Who has the most championships in NHL history?

It’s still the Great White North.

While hockey north of the border has fallen into a championship drought, teams from Canada still account for 43 Stanley Cup wins since 1927, with American teams accounting for 56 Cup victories in that same span. Considering that U.S-based franchises outnumber Canadian ones 25 to 7, that math still bodes well for Canada — even with expansion and all that other stuff playing into it.

Unfortunately for Canadian fans waiting to bring Lord Stanley’s Cup back across the border, it’s been more than three decades since a team from the nation has hoisted the Stanley Cup.

The NHL champion has been crowned the Stanley Cup victor since 1927. Here’s what you need to know about the all-time winners.

NHL teams that have never won a Stanley Cup

As it stands, 10 active NHL franchises have yet to hoist the Cup. These are the teams:

  • Arizona Coyotes
  • Buffalo Sabres
  • Columbus Blue Jackets
  • Minnesota Wild
  • Nashville Predators
  • Ottawa Senators
  • San Jose Sharks
  • Seattle Kraken
  • Vancouver Canucks
  • Winnipeg Jets

Of those 10 teams, five have never made a Stanley Cup finals appearance: The Blue Jackets, Wild, Jets, Coyotes and Kraken. Seattle was an expansion team during 2021-22 season.

The Golden Knights and Panthers, meanwhile, fell of the list in 2023 and 2024, respectively, with their first championships.
