Shedeur Sanders had all sorts of support as he slid during the NFL Draft to the No. 144 overall selection in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns.
One of those supporters? President Donald Trump.
POTUS wrote on social media during the draft that Sanders has “phenomenal genes” and is “destined for greatness.”
Sanders was asked Saturday at Browns rookie minicamp about the support of the President.
“I was truly thankful for it,” he told reporters. “Including him, there were a lot of fans, a lot of people in barbershops, a lot of hairstylists. A lot of fans of me, my craft, and my family were there in support. I was thankful that I had that foundation.”

There were certainly plenty of people who wanted to pile on to Sanders as he fell down the board.
But it’s also true that there were many who were baffled by what was happening and remained on Shedeur’s side throughout the ordeal.
It’s not often a sitting President shares his thoughts on a fifth-round NFL Draft pick, but Sanders did really transcend sports for a while there.
He enters the league as the most-hyped fifth-round selection ever.
Now it’s up to Sanders to make all this attention pay off.
He’s an accurate passer who does indeed have a strong pedigree. He was at times a superstar for Colorado.
There’s much to learn, but there’s also much to be accomplished and be proven for Sanders.
