Shane Mosley: Canelo Alvarez Is Too Big for Terence Crawford, Mobility Lost at 37

Shane Mosley says Canelo Alvarez is “too big” for Terence Crawford, and he’s not going to do well in this fight because he’s not a mover. If he could move, he’d have a better chance of winning. The legs are gone for the 37-year-old Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs). September 13th will be a bad day for Crawford.

Mosley: Canelo’s Size Advantage

“I think Canelo is too big for Crawford. If Crawford was a mover like the rest of them, then maybe he could have a good chance with Canelo,” said Shane Mosley to Fighthype when asked about Terence Crawford’s chances against Canelo Alvarez.

Crawford is going to be in for a surprise when he gets inside the ring with Canelo and starts getting hit by him. He’s bigger and stronger than Crawford’s last opponent, Israil Madrimov. Once Crawford starts getting hit by Canelo, he’ll understand that this is a much different type of fighter than his last bout against Madrimov. It’s going to be harder for him due to his lack of size and advanced age.

“I think that, being that Crawford is a fighter, that’s going to be a problem. He’s a fighter. He wants to fight. He can move a little bit, but his heart is not in moving. So, he’s going to have to sit there and fight with Canelo,” said Mosley.

Crawford’s Aging Legs, Mobility

Crawford has gotten so old, and his inactivity has hurt his mobility. He’s been fighting only one a year since 2020. That helped take away his mobility. He got comfortable once he started making millions, and he’s been doing the bare minimum to stay active. When a fighter gets lazy after becoming a millionaire, this is what you get. Crawford has been living like a King, wealthy and rarely fighting. Now, it’s about to catch up to him against ‘The Face of Boxing’ on September 13th.

“If you sit there and fight with Canelo, he’s that much bigger than you. I don’t know. But everybody thinks Crawford is a great boxer,” said Mosley. “He’s this, he’s that, which he is. He’s a great fighter. I think he was a great fighter at 140 and 147, and he seems to be just good at 154. Now, we’re going to 168.”

Turki’s Fight Rules Impact

Even if Crawford initially planned to move around a lot to defeat Canelo, he’s likely changed his mind after hearing Turki Alalshikh’s directive about not wanting Tom and Jerry-type fights involving running. Crawford isn’t going to want to displease Turki. So, he’s going to fight more aggressively than he otherwise would have, which could work badly for him.

“He’s a master now. He’s been in the ring with everybody,” said Mosley when asked how much better Canelo has gotten since he fought him in 2012. From light heavyweight all the way down to 154,” said Mosley.

Canelo has all kinds of experience during his 19-year career, and he’s faced a lot better opposition than Crawford. There’s no comparison. The only two good opponents Crawford has fought during his 17-year career are Errol Spence Jr. and Israil Madrimov. Spence wasn’t the same fighter that he was pre-car crash, and Crawford took advantage of that.
