Replacement opponent Josh Padley successfully weighed in on Friday for his title challenge against the sunglass-wearing WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson for their clash on Saturday night in Riyadh, live on DAZN.

This is Padley’s Rocky Balboa moment, with a chance of a lifetime given to him after he was picked out as the replacement for ill Floyd Schofield to face unbeaten Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) on Turki Alalshikh’s card at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. If Padley (15-0, 4 KOs) can pull off the upset, it would be huge, one of the biggest in the sport’s history.

After weighing in, both fighters posed to the media with some friendly shoving being done by Shakur in response to Padley trying to position himself in front of him.

“The difference between the two fighters are apparent here. You’ve got Josh Padley, who was working on Monday and got the call. I don’t think Shakur Stevenson has had a full time job apart from boxing. Incredible story,” said commentator Ade Oladipo to Matchroom Boxing during today’s weigh-in for WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and replacement opponent Josh Padley.

“It is nuts. From building sites to the greatest stage in a matter of hours,” said Darren Barker. “What an incredible story this is and what a remarkable it could be. This would be one of the biggest upsets in boxing if Padley pulls this off. He believes in himself, his form is good, but he’s in with a very, very good fighter.

“It reminds of another time when we had a late replacement, Andy Ruiz, when he fought got a call of a lifetime, a Rocky Balboa moment,” said Sergio Mora. “That man right there [Josh Padley] has a Rocky Balboa against what I think is Apollo. He’s hard to hit, a boxer, someone
