Floyd Schofield Jr. is picking Shakur Stevenson to defeat WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez in their potential fight in the first quarter of 2026. He believes Shakur (24-0, 11 KOs) will “outbox’ Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs).
Sr. Sees a Boring Fight Ahead
Schofield’s father, Floyd Schofield Sr., says it’s going to be a boring fight because he doesn’t think Shakur will “engage” against Teofimo like he did against William Zepeda last summer on July 12, 2025, in Queens, New York.
Turki Deserves Better
In other words, it’s a fight that will be a Tom and Jerry clash, and Turki Alalshikh won’t get his money’s worth for placing it on one of his Riyadh Season cards.
“I got Shakur,” said Floyd Schofield Jr. to Fighthype, picking Shakur Stevenson to defeat Teofimo Lopez in their potential fight in early 2026. “It’s a fight that’s not needed.”
Floyd Jr. raises a valid point about the fight not being necessary. Shakur has plenty of great options against fighters at lightweight that he’s not yet fought, who would readily agree to fight him if he weren’t ignoring them.
Lightweights Shakur Has Ignored
As much as Stevenson likes to talk about how no one wants to fight him, these fighters have already called him out numerous times:
- Ernesto Mercado
- Andy Cruz
- Jadier Herrera
You can add Schofield Jr. to that list because he wants to reschedule a fight against Shakur after he missed out on a match against him earlier this year on February 22 due to contracting food poisoning.
“Shakur can’t hurt Teofimo with those hands,” said Schofield Sr.
“He can outbox him,” said Schofield Jr. about Shakur.

It’s unlikely that Shakur would even try to hurt Teofimo. That’s not his style of fighting, as he’s a pure boxer who tries to win decisions rather than knocking out his opponents.
“He can outbox, but he can’t hurt Teo,” said Floyd Sr. “Teo can box some, but is Teo’s wind going to hold out to chase Shakur around all night and box. It’s going to be a boring fight. Shakur is not going to engage.”
Floyd Sr. could be right. Stevenson isn’t going to fight Lopez the way he fought William Zepeda earlier this year on July 12 because he hits too hard.
Once he feels his power, he’ll almost surely go into the same defensive mode that we saw from him in his much-criticized clash against Edwin De Los Santos on November 16, 2023.
