Shakur Stevenson slammed Gervonta Davis in an interview, pointing out that he’s used weight stipulations on his opponents and facing “less talented fighters” to make himself look better than he is.

WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) got riled up when told that Gervonta wasn’t impressed with his record and asked what he has done in his career for him to want to fight him. Tank shut down any possibility of a fight against Shakur, deeming him unworthy to meet with the King. That’s true. Shakur is entirely unfit to be in his presence.

It’s Shakur’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, who has been discussing the idea of him fighting Tank Davis in 2025. Hearn has mapped out 2025 for the Newark, New Jersey native, talking about him fighting these three:

  1. Floyd Schofield
  2. William Zepeda
  3. Gervonta Davis

Now, Shakur is even blabbering like a fight with Tank Davis is a forgone conclusion, without him saying anything. Tank is like, ‘What is this guy talking about?’ Shakur is like a spoiled kid, accustomed to getting whatever he wants, and throwing a fit when he someone says no.

Stevenson needs to give Edwin De Los Santos a rematch, prove that he can fight without running, and then face Andy Cruz. The Cuban talent is a better version of Shakur but with offense, power, and a willingness to engage. If Cruz were a computer, he would be next generation above Shakur, a clunky, outdated, early 2000-level model, freezing up on pages.

Weight Drain Accusations

“He just don’t seem like a real. No disrespect to him, but I’m a real person. I’m not going to go out there and act like Tank isn’t a good fighter,” said Shakur Stevenson to Boxing News, reacting to being told that Gervonta Davis said he wasn’t impressed with his record, and he shut down rumors of the two meeting up in the ring because he doesn’t see any value in fighting Shakur.

“The same way he asks what have I done for the sport of boxing, I think he should look in the mirror and ask the same question because it’s like what have you done?” continued Shakur about Tank Davis. “Even the guys you knocked out have all been on a weight clause, a weight drain. It looks good to the public and the people that don’t know, but I’m a fighter. I know what’s going on. I know what you’re doing.

“You’re taking the less talented fighters and putting them in the ring with yourself and making them look like they’re on his level, but they’re not. Until he fights an elite-level fighter, I don’t want to hear nothing from him,” said Shakur.

What Gervonta is saying is 100% true. Who has Shakur fought during his career? No one good. He beat a couple of washed-up fighters at 130, captured three paper titles against weak opposition, and looked hellishly bad since moving up to 135. He was booed out of the arena in his fight against Edwin De Los Santos, and fans fled in droves in his last fight against the weak-punching Artem Harutyunyan last July in his hometown of Newark.

“Fight Someone I Fought!”

“He [Tank] acted like he couldn’t get a lot of people in the ring. Why didn’t he try to get Edwin De Los Santos? Why wouldn’t that be a fight that you want? Since you want to talk bad about me, fight somebody I fought. And you talked about my performance doing it. So, out-perform me,” said Shakur.

Tank fighting Edwin De Los Santos would do nothing for him and his career because that guy hasn’t fought in 14 months. He would be coming off a loss to Stevenson, and by the time Gervonta fought him in August or September, he would have been inactive for 21 months.

Shakur’s stock has plummeted since he was exposed as a chicken runner by De Los Santos on November 16, 2023. He has done nothing to turn things around by fighting a rematch with him or looking brave in his next fight against the light-hitting Arten Harutyunyan.
