The Seattle Seahawks will aggressively pursue a quarterback in free agency, as the team traded Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders after failed contract talks.
There are a plethora of veteran quarterback options set to hit the market, but TWSN’s Marissa Myers predicts the Seahawks will reunite with Pittsburgh Steelers signal-caller Russell Wilson in free agency.
“Russell Wilson’s 2025 offseason could take a turn than what was originally expected. While Wilson was expected to leave the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency for one reunion, it may end up with another. That reunion is going to be the direct result of the Seattle Seahawks trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders,” Myers wrote.
“For Wilson, while things got messy towards the end of his first time on the team during trade speculation that would result in Wilson being dealt to the Denver Broncos, there’s no denying that a return would do him good. Going back to the team he knows, with a staple offensive system and rising defense would put Wilson in the best position to make one last Super Bowl push,” Myers added.
Though Wilson is getting older and wouldn’t be a long-term fix for Seattle, the ten-time Pro Bowler played efficient and mistake-free football for the Steelers in 2024, tossing 16 touchdowns to just five interceptions with a 95.6 passer rating. Wilson would be a fantastic bridge for the Seahawks and could propel them back into the NFC playoff picture.
Signing the Super Bowl XLVIII champion won’t be cheap, as Pro Football Focus projects Wilson will land a two-year deal worth $60 million with $32.5 million guaranteed and $30 million annually. Spotrac believes that number could be $77.4 million over two seasons with $38.7 million per year.
Seattle has $62.5 million in cap space to spend, as the franchise has saved a ton of money over the last week by moving on from Smith and wide receiver Tyler Lockett.
Russell Wilson is a Seahawks legend who is still an adequate starting signal-caller despite bouncing around the league over the last few years. General manager John Schneider should seriously consider a reunion with Wilson, who has unfinished business in Seattle.
