Schofield Sr. Offers Pay Cut For Rescheduled Shakur Stevenson Fight

Floyd Schofield Sr. wants the matchup with Shakur Stevenson back on the table. Watching his son sit through 13 months without progress, Senior stated that the former WBC lightweight champion can keep the belt and purse control if it guarantees the two meet inside the ring.

Fight week in February 2025 saw the original bout collapse after Schofield suffered an illness requiring hospitalization. A one-round knockout win over Tevin Farmer four months later briefly restored movement in his career. A wrist injury then wiped out a planned bout against Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr., leaving no further date on the calendar. That prolonged layoff left one of the division’s leading contenders sitting on the sidelines while potential rivals remain active.

Senior sees a clear path toward making the bout:

“We want the Shakur fight. We’ll take a pay cut. He could keep his belt. We want the fight,” said Schofield Sr. to MillCity Boxing. “They insulted us first. We got to put this all behind us. Let’s go ahead and let them meet their match. If he don’t want to fight, just say he don’t want to fight. We understand. We keep it moving.”

Beyond offering financial concessions, Senior addressed claims that his team ducked the original date, questioning why Shakur shows no willingness to get the match back on the schedule now that the medical situation is clear.

At 23 years old, Schofield remains unbeaten and highly ranked by the WBA. Sitting idle remains the main threat to his position. Losing out on the Shakur title shot cost him his biggest career opportunity, making it vital for him to secure a top-tier opponent with every passing month.

“Hopefully whenever we get that chance, if we can run it, we run it. If not, we not. I’m just excited to see what’s going to happen over there at Zuffa. His career got nothing to do with mine,” said Schofield Jr. about Shkaur signing with Zuffa Boxing.
