Schedule changes for Arsenal and Manchester City create point-scoring opportunities after Carabao Cup final confirmed

ARSENAL and Manchester City will meet at Wembley to decide the first major trophy of the season.

The two Premier League heavyweights won their respective Carabao Cup semi-final second legs this week and Dream Team managers should be aware of the knock-on effects to the schedule.

An obvious point worth stating plainly is that the finalists now have another fixture to fulfil, which means another opportunity for Dream Team bosses to earn points.

Pep Guardiola’s side will play the Gunners on March 22nd as part of Gameweek 29.

The final itself is very much a future point of interest but, as a consequence of making the final, Arsenal will have an additional league game this month.

Mikel Arteta’s side were due to face Wolves at Molineux in Gameweek 29 but that match-up has been brought forward to February 18th.

DOUBLE BUBBLE

Which double headers should Dream Team managers target in Gameweek 23?

PRAISE JESUS

Nottingham Forest’s 4.4%-owned striker might be smart option for Gameweek 23

This means Arsenal will play twice in Gameweek 24 as they will host Wigan in the FA Cup fourth round the weekend prior.

This additional fixture could be invaluable as cup weekends are often low-scoring affairs due to rotation.

Arteta is likely to rest his key men against the Latics but the likes of Gabriel (£4.8m), Declan Rice (£5.6m) and David Raya (£4.1m) are guaranteed to start against Wolves (so long as they are available).

And given Rob Edwards’ troops are rooted to the bottom of the table, there’s every chance Arsenal’s popular assets will fill their boots.

Long story short, it’s probably a good idea to stock up on Arsenal players for Gameweek 24.

Some managers may even start the process now ahead of Gameweek 23, when the league leaders will face Sunderland (h) and Brentford (a).

In regards to Man City, the equation is a little more complicated.

Their home game against Crystal Palace is currently postponed to make room for the Carabao Cup final but, unlike Wolves v Arsenal, this fixture hasn’t been rescheduled for February.

This is because the Eagles have a Conference League play-off to fulfil across Gameweeks 24 and 25.

As it stands, City v Palace will have to be squeezed in towards the end of the campaign, either mid-April or early May.

However, this fixture could happen earlier if both teams are eliminated from Europe before the quarter-finals or if Guardiola’s side fail to make the last eight of the FA Cup.

Truth be told, there’s no need to fret over the permutations just yet.

From a Dream Team perspective, the primary focus at this stage should be Arsenal’s useful double header in Gameweek 24.

Poring over the fixture list can be a dull task but the very best Dream Team managers keep up to date with the schedule at all times.

Every game offers points and you never know which one might make the difference at the end of the season.
