After an abysmal 2024 season that saw them finish with a 5-12 record and in fourth place in the NFC South, the New Orleans Saints had an action-packed offseason.
This started with the firing of Dennis Allen in the middle of last season, which led to the team hiring former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their new head coach.
Over the last few months, New Orleans watched Lucas Patrick, Will Harris, Payton Turner, Willie Gay, Paulson Adebo, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Shemar Jean-Charles and Olisaemeka Udoh join other other teams.
They brought in Isaac Yiadom, Chris Rumph II, Justin Reid, Brandin Cooks, Jack Stoll, Jonah Williams and Davon Godchaux in free agency, and nine intriguing rookies through the 2025 NFL draft, including Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks, Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough, Texas defensive tackler Vernon Broughton and Virginia safety Jonas Sanker in the first two days.
With all the changes that the Saints made, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton views them as the biggest loser in the NFC South, mostly due to their questions at the quarterback position.
Derek Carr started just 10 games for New Orleans in 2024 due to a shoulder injury, leading the club to a 5-5 record while completing 67.7% of his passes for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Carr’s tenure with the Saints hasn’t gone as either side would hope, as the team is just 14-13 in his 27 starts over two years. He also has a $20.46 million cap hit in 2025 which jumps to $69.21 million next year which will likely lead to his release as a post-June 1 cut in 2026, saving them $50 million.
While they drafted Shough in the second round, he’s not exactly expected to be the team’s franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.
The conundrum at the most important position in sports is enough for Moton to put them at the bottom of the division, and honestly, it wouldn’t be surprising to see New Orleans finish in fourth again in the NFC South.
