Ryan Garcia Says: “I Didn’t Train for Rolly Romero Fight” – The “Imposter” Speaks

Ryan Garcia Says: “I Didn’t Train for Rolly Romero Fight” – The “Imposter” Speaks

Ryan Garcia claims he didn’t train for his fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero last May. He says he didn’t care, and what fans saw that night was an “imposter,” not the real Ryan Garcia.

Ryan is in negotiations to fight Romero for his WBA welterweight title in December. He says he’s going to “smack” him around and show the fans how wrong they were about him.

Excuses for Loss

“I went on a high after beating Devin, and the s*** just went south after that,” said Ryan Garcia on social media, discussing why he crumbled in his loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero last May. “The real ones come back, and that’s what I’m doing. I’m coming back and take over.”

Sitting out of the ring for a year didn’t help Ryan. He was kicking back in his giant mansion in the Los Angeles area, languishing. It was a mistake for Garcia to use a big puncher like Rolly as his tune-up opponent after a year out. He should have chosen a weaker puncher. It’s not like Ryan needed Romero to create interest in his May 2nd comeback, because he’s NOT a popular fighter.

“I got to get that back with Rolly. I’m not just going to let that happen. Y’all seen that I wasn’t there,” said Garcia.”You saw that I didn’t throw no punches. Nobody was even at the fight. The stuff was dead. That’s the sad part. He beat me, but nobody really watched.”

Courage Abandoned Garcia

What Ryan is leaving out with his excuses is that he was afraid to throw punches. His courage abandoned him completely after he was dropped in round two by Romero.

After that incident, Garcia never attempted to fight aggressively again for the remainder of the bout. If he had gone all out, he might have gotten lucky if he connected with one of his left hooks. Rolly has a glass chin, but Ryan gave up on himself mentally too soon in the fight to expose that weakness.

“No one even remembers that fight [Romero] because I didn’t promote it. I didn’t do s***.  All I did was be there. You guys didn’t get Ryan Garcia. You got an imposter. I got dropped, but it was wack,” said Ryan, trying to downplay the significance of his loss. “I was off balance, and I wasn’t hurt. The whole event was wack. It was boring, and nobody even watched it.”

Popularity Evaporates

The fact is, fans do remember Ryan’s loss to Rolly. That’s why the popularity that he’d enjoyed after his upset win over Devin Haney has evaporated. Fans now view Garcia as a one-dimensional fighter with just a left hook in his arsenal and a weak mind. Many of them look at Ryan as an influencer-level boxer.

“Watch when I come back. I’m going to blow it up and smack them in front of everybody. 100%. Everybody was off that day, too,” said Garcia.

Ryan better do the job because he’s in a must-win situation fighting Rolly a second time. If he loses this rematch, what’s left of his popularity will go down the drain. Some fans haven’t bailed out on the Garcia hype train, but if he gets whipped again by Romero, they’re going to jump off. Then it would be up to Turki Alalshikh to decide whether he wants to continue subsidizing Kingry’s career or let him go.
