Ryan Garcia Says Crawford Resents His Boxing Takeover

“I gave my honest opinion, saying that he left a lot on the table. That’s all I said. Crawford is the one that’s always coming up and slightly hating on me little by little. In the meantime, you’re retired. You should be in Turks and Caicos chilling on a yacht, enjoying your family. He’s desperate, bro,” said Ryan to Fight Hub TV. “Nobody knows him outside of boxing, so he’s doing everything he can to continue his name. He actually likes the attention. I used to think Crawford didn’t, but now I know he does. He realized nobody cares after you retire.”

Ryan also dismissed Crawford’s presence at Benn’s gym. “I feel like I’ll beat your ass, so what are you going to teach him?” he said.

Their bad blood highlights the fundamental difference between the two men. Crawford pursued championships, pound-for-pound recognition, and technical supremacy. Garcia measures his position through audience size, financial leverage, and the ability to command boxing’s most valuable dates.

Crawford built the greater traditional legacy, but Ryan attracts the larger mainstream audience. If Garcia defeats Benn and becomes boxing’s leading commercial figure, he will have achieved something Crawford never managed despite accomplishing far more inside the ring.

Working with Benn does not necessarily prove Garcia’s accusation that Crawford craves attention. It may represent a retired fighter transferring his knowledge to another contender. Garcia has turned that mentorship into an insult, reducing Benn to a pupil who cannot be saved even by one of boxing’s finest technicians.

That approach also keeps Benn’s abilities outside the discussion. By treating the fight as a proxy battle with Crawford, Garcia portrays him as little more than the vehicle for another man’s resentment.

The claim brings considerable risk. Garcia’s argument carries force only if he beats Benn. A loss would damage his attempt to place drawing power above championships while giving Crawford every reason to question both his boxing and his self-appointed status.

The message was simple: Crawford had his run and should either return to face someone such as Jaron Ennis or Vergil Ortiz Jr. or stay quiet in retirement.
