Ryan Garcia: Done. Finished. Is There Any Coming Back?

Ryan Garcia: Done. Finished. Is There Any Coming Back?

Ryan Garcia is viewed as washed by fans following his loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero earlier this month on May 2nd. The social media star Garcia’s 15 minutes of fame from his upset win over Devin Haney last year have ended after being dominated by a very beatable, badly flawed Rolly (17-2, 13 KOs) at Times Square in New York City.

Rolly made Ryan look limited and one-dimensional by taking away his vaunted left hook. Once that weapon was neutralized, the cupboard was bare with no other tools for Garcia to use. There was no jab or right hand from Ryan, and his footwork was horrible.

He resembled Frankenstein’s monster with his stiff, upright movement. The better-skilled, more athletic fighters, such as Jaron Ennis, Brian Norman Jr., and Teofimo Lopez, look several levels above Garcia.

Garcia’s Mental Breakdown Signs

It’s troubling that Garcia isn’t talking and showing anger about his defeat. When you see a fighter get quiet, it’s a signal that they’re mentally broken and have lost their self-belief. Ryan should be showing some backbone, calling out Rolly, stating he wants the rematch, and muddying the water like Haney was doing. He wouldn’t shut up with his complaining after his loss.

Garcia lost to Romero by the scores of 115-112, 118-109, and 115-112. The 118-109 was the most accurate of the three. It looked like Kingry hoisted up the white flag of surrender after being knocked down in round two. He did nothing for the remainder of the fight, allowing Rolly to dominate, throwing single shots.

The overwhelming view of Kingry is that he’s finished as a fighter, a fallen star, and won’t be able to come back from this loss to realize the promise that he’d shown. Losing to Rolly was far worse than Garcia’s sixth-round knockout loss to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in 2023.

According to The Ring, Ryan will have right-hand surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles. Could this be the reason why he lost to Rolly? It sounds like a good excuse that he can run with.

No Rematch for Ryan?

Ryan’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has ruled out a rematch with Haney in October, as previously planned by Turki Alalshikh if Garcia had won on May 2nd. Oscar wants Ryan to rematch Romero. However, his silence on the subject hints that he doesn’t want a second helping of whoop a** by Rolly. The loss left him speechless, and he hasn’t been seen since.

It has a Ted Kaczynski look to it, where Ryan has gone off the grid, perhaps disappearing to a remote area. Hopefully, that’s not the case.

De La Hoya may have to talk Garcia through this to bring him back. However, if this is it for him, he’d be leaving the sport with unfilled potential and shattered dreams of becoming a billionaire before retiring. Going into his match against Rolly, it was thought Ryan would destroy him and take care of Haney once and for all to shut him up.
