Ryan Garcia Claims He Was “Disgusted” with Himself, Now Seeks Rolly Romero Rematch for Validation

Ryan Garcia is back at it, demanding a rematch with Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, and blaming his loss against him last May on having injured hands. Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) believes he deserves the opportunity to fight Rolly (17-2, 13 KOs) again despite his non-effort.

Kingry’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has already nixed the idea of a rematch with Rolly, preferring to set up a more lucrative match with Teofimo Lopez.

Garcia’s Fear, Lack Of Effort

“I don’t want to make no excuses, but I did have two major hand problems. That’s why I couldn’t let go of any of my punches. On top of it, I had a really bad training camp, and that’s just the truth,” said Ryan Garcia on social media about what went wrong in his loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on May 2nd.

Fans aren’t buying Ryan’s hand excuse alibi for why he didn’t put any effort into his fight with Rolly. They see it for what it is – plain old-fashioned fear. Garcia was terrified of being knocked out, so he chose not to throw punches.

Rolly was countering Kingry when he loaded up on his shots. After Ryan was dropped from a left-hook counter by Romero in round two, he went into shutdown mode, and did nothing for the remainder of the 12-round fight at Times Square.

“Let me get my rematch. Let me prove I got it. let me prove I can beat him, and then we can move on. Obviously, that wasn’t my best in any way, and I want to get my rematch,” said Garcia.

Kingry’s Lack of Guilt

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya isn’t interested in making the Garcia vs. Rolly 2 rematch, and he’s the one who would be sticking his neck out, paying. It doesn’t appear that Turki Alalshikh is interested in being involved in a second fight between Ryan and Romero. If he were, he’d have spoken up by now. Turki would be better off sinking his money into the Kingry vs. Devin Haney rematch or matching Ryan against Teofimo Lopez.

“I didn’t even watch it because I was disgusted with myself because I never fought like that in my life. I don’t never not throw punches. I don’t care who you are. I’m going to come in and throw my s***. I just had a really off night. I watched it, and nothing really happened other than the knockdown.”

What was really troubling was how Ryan could do so little when he was paid $20 million by Turki Alalshikh and given the star treatment by being in the main event. The entire Times Square event was built around Garcia, yet he had no sense of guilt about not putting in an effort. It was beyond pathetic. Didn’t he feel obligated?

Is Ryan Spoiled Rotten?

The only conclusion I can come to is that Kingry is spoiled rotten, and he feels he doesn’t have to go out on his shield like other fighters when they’re overmatched. Rolly completely outclassed him, but at least he should have loaded up on one of his classic left hook smashes. He might have gotten lucky.

“I had a bad last couple of rounds, but other than that, he didn’t really do anything,” said Ryan about Rolly.

Romero didn’t do anything, but neither did Garcia. He wasn’t throwing any punches and retreating around the ring all night. He looked like he was deathly afraid of Rolly after being dropped by him in round two.
