Ryan Garcia made weight today, coming in at 146.8 lbs for his 12-round welterweight headliner fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero this Friday, May 2nd, live on DAZN PPV at Times Square in New York City. Rolly (16-2, 13 KOs) came in at 146.6 pounds.

Ryan’s Weight Struggle

Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) was picked last night wearing what appeared to be a sauna suit, still trying to sweat off the remaining pounds to make the 147-lb welterweight limit. He looked drained, with the gaunt appearance of a person who was malnourished.

Devin Haney weighed in at 143 lbs for his 144-lb catchweight fight against Jose Ramirez in the chief support bout. Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) scaled in at 143.8 pounds.

Surprisingly, Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) didn’t have the same skeletal appearance that we’d seen from him in his last three fights. That shows that he’s kept his weight under control during his year out of the ring, and hasn’t been slacking off by eating goodies.

Haney knows he’s got to win this fight to ensure that he gets the rematch with Garcia next in October. Although been talk of the fight still happening regardless of Friday’s outcome of their two fights, it’s not definite. However, even if the rematch will still take place, it’s important that Devin and Ryan both win on Friday to increase the public demand.

Official Weights

Ryan Garcia: 146.8 vs. Rolando Romero 146.6
Devin Haney: 143 vs. Jose Ramirez: 143.8
Teofimo Lopez 139.6 vs. Arnold Barboza 139.8

WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) and challenger Arnold Barboza Jr. (32-0, 11 KOs) were professionals as always, coming in on weight. Those two aren’t the types to let their weight get out of control between fights the way Garcia and Haney sometimes do.

Teofimo failed to steal the show in the final press conference on Wednesday by wearing a wrestling mask. That approach worked against him because it took away from his theatrics by covering up his face. He misjudged what the reaction would be when he came up with this bit.
