The Tennessee Titans had a miserable 2024 season, finishing with a 3-14 record and securing the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Much of the team’s struggles can be attributed to poor quarterback play. Former second-round pick Will Levis struggled mightily, and veteran Mason Rudolph didn’t fair much better in his place.

Now, the team will assuredly add a quarterback in free agency, the draft, or perhaps both. One possible option for the team is veteran Russell Wilson, who heads to free agency after one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus recently identified the ideal free agent target for each team. Locker listed Wilson as the perfect option for the Titans this offseason.

Regarding Wilson and the Titans, Locker offered the following:

The lone constant in Tennessee’s current receiver room is Calvin Ridley, whose top two routes by percentage were gos and outs. That lines up with Wilson, who threw each at least 17.4% of the time during his one season with the Steelers. Considering that Ridley’s 97.6 PFF deep receiving grade placed 25th among receivers — and that Wilson’s 97.3 PFF deep passing grade led qualified quarterbacks — there could be a strong downfield connection between the two.

Head coach Brian Callahan has touted accuracy and decision-making as his desired traits in a quarterback, and even at 36, Wilson offers both. The former Super Bowl champ could be a perfect bridge quarterback for the team as it upgrades other weaknesses.

In 2024, Wilson played in 11 games and threw for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.

At times, the quarterback looked like his vintage self. At other times, however, the quarterback struggled, like at the end of the season when the team lost five straight games.

However, Wilson is still one of the most accomplished quarterbacks of his generation. The veteran led the Seattle Seahawks to a win in Super Bowl XLVIII and has earned 10 Pro Bowl selections, including in 2024.

Recent reports indicate that the Steelers may prefer to let Wilson walk, so the Titans should be able to pursue the veteran if they choose. Spotrac projects Wilson to land a two-year deal worth $38.7 million annually. Over the Cap projects the Titans to have around $50 million in cap space, making this a logical pairing.

The Titans are unlikely to contend in 2025, so Wilson could be looked at as a bridge option. This draft class isn’t considered to be strong when it comes to quarterbacks, so Wilson could start for the Titans while a rookie waits in the wings.
