Russell Wilson could be the key that unlocks this New York Giants WR in 2025

Russell Wilson could be the key that unlocks this New York Giants WR in 2025

Wide receiver is the most dependent position in football. Even the best pass catchers can be neutralized by poor quarterback play, so when it comes to the New York Giants and their horrendous recent history behind center, it’s no surprise that some of the young wideouts not named Malik Nabers have struggled to make a significant impact in the NFL.

That should change in 2025. The Giants have taken massive steps forward in their quarterback room through the signings of veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and the first-round selection of Ole Miss star Jaxson Dart.

As a result, it’s fair for Giants fans to expect a wide receiver or two to emerge this season and produce in ways that exceed expectations.

An early candidate to be that guy is third-year pro Jalin Hyatt, who’s been one of the most impressive skill players throughout New York’s offseason program.

Wilson has been particularly important to Hyatt’s resurgence. He’s targeted him often during OTAs, this after holding workouts with Hyatt in Los Angeles during the offseason.

“When you see what Russ has done since he’s got here, within the first two weeks he’s bringing Jalin Hyatt out to L.A. and they’re working out privately,” assistant general manager Brandon Brown told reporters Thursday. “He’s getting all the skill guys together down in Atlanta. Earlier this week, scheduling a dinner with the O-Line and running backs.”

Wilson’s leadership is taking hold early in his Giants career, and while it’s understood that Wilson’s time as QB1 will be short-lived — he will be replaced the moment coach Brian Daboll thinks Dart is ready to roll — his impact has already been meaningful.

And get used to Hyatt making plays. Wilson is a big fan of his.

“Jalin Hyatt, he’s a guy that I really believe in,” Wilson said.

Hyatt finished last season with just eight catches for 62 yards. He has nowhere to go but up.
