Roman Wilson’s first season in the NFL did not go according to plan, but the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver is already drawing hype ahead of Year 2.
Wilson played just five offensive snaps in one game for the Steelers during his rookie campaign, which was otherwise marred by injury. His absence was particularly notable because of the Steelers’ need at wide receiver.
With Pittsburgh back in the same boat at the position in 2025 after trading away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, the Steelers need their 2024 third-round pick to step up and become a reliable target for whoever is under center.
So far, things appear to be moving in a positive direction for the Michigan product. Beat writer Mark Kaboly came away impressed after watching Wilson during Pittsburgh’s first practice of OTAs on Tuesday.
“I’ve said this for a while now, but look out for Roman Wilson this year for the Steelers,” Kaboly wrote on X.
Kaboly wasn’t the only head Wilson turned, though.

Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com said Wilson “looked explosive” and noted how his athleticism shined during Tuesday’s practice.
“If there were going to be a winner for the Pittsburgh Steelers from their first day of OTAs, wide receiver Roman Wilson would qualify as that,” he stated. “The second-year wide receiver looked explosive, and his athleticism fully shone through a year after injuries derailed his rookie season.”
Wilson spoke to reporters after practice and revealed that he’s been taking even better care of his body this offseason.
ESPN’s Brooke Pryor noted that the sophomore wide receiver appeared to be more bulked up, although Wilson said he’s playing at the same weight.
“I will say, today at OTAs, I thought that he looked a little more bulked-up than he did this time a year ago, and certainly during the season,” Pryor said on 93.7 The Fan. “I asked him if he had put on any weight. He said no, he was playing at the same weight.”
Bulked up or not, it’s pretty clear that the Roman Wilson hype train is boarding for 2025. Granted, there’s still a long way to go, but things are off to a good start.
