But could Roberto Mancini really be in the frame if United decide to give Ruben Amorim the push?

The 60-year-old Italian – out of work since leaving his role with Saudi Arabia a year ago – has told friends he believes he could be in with a shout if the Red Devils do make a change.
Like Sir Jim Ratcliffe, he has a base in the South of France and is believed to have met the Ineos magnate at various social functions.
And his CV remains impressive – as well as his trophies at the Etihad, he also led Italy to Euro 2020 glory at the expense of England.
Even so, it’s hard to imagine him swapping blue for red and heading to Old Trafford.

He remains a cult figure with some City fans afer ending their 34 year wait for a trophy in 2011 and then leading them to title glory a year later.
Some supporters who made the journey to Monaco for the Champions League clash earlier this month were delighted to bump into him on the day of the game.
Mancini was dismissed by Man City in 2013 after taking charge of 191 games.
Across his stay at the Etihad Stadium, he managed 113 wins and just 40 defeats.
The Italian has since taken charge of Galatasaray, Inter Milan, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Italy and the Saudi Arabia national team.
Mancini is not the only manager being linked with the Man Utd job.
Gareth Southgate and Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner are among the names that have been mentioned.
