If Kambosos is victorious in his match against Daud Yordan on March 22nd, Hitchins would like to fight him this summer in New York. The fight could headline a potential big card sometime in June. Kambosos is the man who defeated Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) and being able to beat him would demonstrate he is deserving of a unification match against Teo.
Hitchins would like to face Teofimo later in the year, pending future events, successfully defeating Kambosos in the summer, and Teofimo being victorious against Arnold Barboza Jr. on May 2nd, the potential super fight could be on the horizon. “I think if Teofimo wins, Richardson Hitchins and Teofimo is the fight Turki Alalshikh wants. It’s a big fight. Hopefully we can unify. I’m going to get my job done. Hopefully he can get his job done and we unify,” said Hitchins when asked about the potential matchup. With Turki’s backing, if both fighters are successful, the fight should materialize.
Now that he’s a champion, Hitchins is looking to surmount himself at the top of the 140-pound division and ultimately at the top of the sport. He’s looking for the biggest fights possible and is looking to fight the biggest names in the sport. When asked about his future plans, Hitchins said, “Maybe it’s another unification fight, or maybe a fight at 147, Ryan Garcia – – Devin Haney, it really don’t matter.” Hitchins intends to unify at 140 and knows a jump to 147 is inevitable. Facing the named opponents would earn him superstardom and victories against them with place him among the elite in the sport.
The super lightweight division is one of the more exciting divisions in the sport as there have been numerous title changes in the last year and multiple upsets. Subriel Matias, Rolly Romero, Isaac Cruz, Liam Paro, and Jose Valenzuela all suffered championship losses in the past year, and all are top contenders looking to regain championship glory. Hitchins looks to unify the division and a potential matchup with any current champion would be great for the sport.
