For the majority of his pro boxing career, Regis Prograis has fought at 140, but for his matchup against Benn, he has agreed to fight at a catch weight of 150. Benn normally fights at 147, but for his past two bouts, he’s competed at 160.
Back in October 2019, the then WBA super-lightweight world champion Regis Prograis battled the IBF champion, Josh Taylor. The unification bout was highly competitive, but at the conclusion of the contest, Taylor was declared the winner.
After losing his world title, Prograis would have to wait three years before receiving the opportunity to fight for championship gold. On November 26, 2022, Regis Prograis stopped Jose Zepeda in the 11th round and won the WBC strap.
Prograis would go on to have a homecoming fight at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. It was a lackluster performance, but Prograis won the bout by way of split-decision.
Six months later, Prograis suffered the second loss of his pro career when Devin Haney defeated him via unanimous decision. Prograis made an attempt to bounce back, but the attempt fell short as he lost to Jack Catterall.
In his most recent ring appearance, Prograis was involved in an entertaining firefight. Jo Jo Diaz had his moments, but Prograis earned the unanimous decision victory.
Now the 37-year-old two-time world champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (30-3, 24 KOs) is on the verge of facing a very dangerous opponent. Conor Benn is a skilled boxer who is explosive, fast, and powerful.
In order to stay on the elite level, the southpaw Regis Prograis has to look impressive against Conor Benn. Prograis hasn’t put together an eye-catching performance since 2022.
Going into his fight against Benn, the biggest question mark revolves around Prograis’s punch resistance. In his homecoming bout, it looked like Danielito Zorrilla knocked Prograis down in the first, but the referee ruled it as a slip.
In his last three bouts, Regis Prograis was knocked down by Devin Haney, knocked down by Jack Catterall, and wobbled on multiple occasions by Jo Jo Diaz. Prograis’s chin will get tested once again on April 11th when he steps in the ring to face the hard-hitting Conor Benn.
Despite the fact that his recent ring appearances haven’t been impressive, Prograis is confident he will defeat Benn because he’s been training with younger boxers, and an element he was missing has come back into his life.
“I revamped my career, and I feel like that’s what I have now, like that hunger again. I feel like you know sometimes you get comfortable and you kinda lose that, and now I just, I feel like I have it,” Prograis said during his interview with The Ring.
Regis Prograis lost to Josh Taylor in 2019, and he was defeated by Jack Catterall in 2024. Currently, Prograis has a 0-2 record when fighting in the United Kingdom. However, Prograis believes the third time will be the charm.
“I can’t really give predictions and stuff like that. I definitely don’t think I’m going to lose the fight at all you know. I can’t say that, you know, but I’m going to go out there, and I’m, I’mma shine. I feel like I’m going to shine.”
