Ravens trade pitch pairs Derrick Henry with $3.9 million former 1,000-yard rusher

Ravens trade pitch pairs Derrick Henry with .9 million former 1,000-yard rusher

The Baltimore Ravens recently locked down their workhorse running back, as the team signed Derrick Henry to a two-year extension worth $30 million with $25 million guaranteed. Henry is now tied to the Ravens until the end of the 2027 season.

Though he is getting older, Henry has shown no signs of decline. The Alabama product posted 1,921 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in 2024 and was the engine of Baltimore’s offense.

Henry will be the Ravens’ No.1 running back for the next few years, but Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios believes general manager Eric DeCosta should take some pressure off the future Hall of Famer by trading for Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier.

Despite signing his extension this offseason, Henry needs all the help in the world to have fresh legs for the postseason. Allgeier may fill the hole as a reliable speedster to move the chains to better supply Lamar Jackson’s offense.

Allgeier showed a ton of promise during his rookie campaign in 2022, as he rushed for 1,035 yards and averaged nearly five yards per carry. The 25-year-old seemed destined to be Atlanta’s franchise running back, but the team decided to use the No.8 overall pick in the 2023 draft on Bijan Robinson, who has taken over as the primary back.

Though Robinson and Allgeier have formed a nice duo in the Falcons’ backfield, Allgeier’s production has dipped over the last two seasons. The BYU product is capable of being a starter, and with Robinson developing into an electric playmaker for Atlanta, trading Allgeier would be a logical move for everyone involved.

Baltimore already has solid depth behind Henry in Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell, but if they want to take their rushing attack to the next level, acquiring Allgeier would be the move. The former fifth-round pick would form a versatile duo with Henry and be a fantastic change of pace back in Todd Monken’s offense.

Trading for Allgeier would likely cost a Day 3 pick, and though the Ravens have a deep running back room, they should consider trading for the young Falcons standout. Allgeier could be the eventual replacement for Henry, but he would also be an instant contributor as the No.2 back.
