Ravens predicted to add 51-TD. 4-time Pro Bowler to pair with Derrick Henry

Ravens predicted to add 51-TD. 4-time Pro Bowler to pair with Derrick Henry

If you tried to identify the biggest weakness for the Baltimore Ravens, you probably wouldn’t pick the running back position.

After all, the team has one of the best running backs in the league in Derrick Henry, and the team recently extended Henry for two more seasons. Even though Henry is 31, the running back rushed for just under 2,000 yards last season and was a crucial part of the Ravens’ dynamic offense.

However, it never hurts to have depth in the NFL. Behind Henry, the depth isn’t exactly great, with career depth piece Justice Hill currently the top option.

Daniel Alameda of TWSN thinks the Ravens could look to the free agency market to find a more capable backup. Alameda has the team adding Nick Chubb, who has spent his entire career to this point with the division rival Cleveland Browns.

Regarding Chubb’s fit in Baltimore, Alameda offered the following:

The Ravens running back room is pretty stacked with Derrick Henry, but their depth is full of quick twitch backs, no bruising back like Chubb.

Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill are both great change of pace running backs, but Chubb could come in and effectively backup Henry.

As Alameda mentioned, Hill and Keaton Mitchell are both quick-twitch, change-of-pace running backs who don’t offer much. Chubb is an experienced starter who can still be a bruiser and also adds something in the passing game.

In 2024, Chubb played in eight games and rushed 332 yards and three touchdowns. The Georgia product also caught five passes for 31 yards and one score.

The production was way down for Chubb, but it’s understandable as the running back was coming back from a serious knee injury suffered at the end of 2023. Just when Chubb appeared to be fully healthy again, he broke his foot and ended his 2024 season early.

While Chubb’s 2024 numbers weren’t inspiring, the running back has been elite when healthy. The former second-round pick earned four consecutive Pro Bowl berths from 2019-22 and has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark four times.

Chubb makes sense in Baltimore because the team wouldn’t be relying on him to start. At best, Chubb would be the passing down back who could spell Henry after big runs. Also, if Henry were to get injured, you’d feel much more comfortable with Chubb starting than Hill or Mitchell.

The Ravens don’t have the most cap space in the league, but Chubb would likely be willing to settle for a one-year, prove-it deal with a contending team.
