Raptors extend general manager Bobby Webster, will not name new president after parting ways with Masai Ujiri

Masai Ujiri’s first hire will outlast him with the Toronto Raptors. Bobby Webster was extended by the team Monday, and will remain its general manager, it confirmed.

Webster has been with the team since 2013, and was Ujiri’s first hire, per Charania. Webster initially joined the team as its vice president of basketball management and strategy. He eventually worked his into an assistant general manager role before taking over as the team’s general manager in 20217. He served in that role when the Raptors won the NBA championship during the 2018-19 NBA season.

With the move, Webster will outlast his former boss as Raptors’ president. Ujiri originally served as the team’s executive vice president and general manager when he was hired in 2013. He was eventually promoted to team president in 2016. He served in both roles until 2017, when he named Webster the team’s new general manager.

Ujiri continued to serve as the Raptors’ president of basketball operations until June, when the team surprisingly parted ways with Ujiri a day after the 2025 NBA Draft. In its statement, the team said it would prioritize a new extension with Webster.

After experiencing plenty of success early in Webster’s tenure, the Raptors struggled in recent seasons. While the team posted a .500 record during the 2022-23 NBA season, it failed to make the postseason. The Raptors have combined to go 55-109 since then, extending their postseason drought to three years.

Webster will be tasked with getting the team after its recent stretch of poor play. While he’s undoubtedly played a role in the team’s struggles, Webster has enough familiarity with the franchise to hopefully engineer a quick turnaround.
