The Las Vegas Raiders have a few key players who are set to hit the free agency market this offseason, including linebacker Robert Spillane. The veteran has started all 17 games for Las Vegas in each of the last two seasons and has been one of the lone bright spots on a dysfunctional team.
Spillane will have a competitive market in free agency, but The 33rd Team’s Marcus Mosher predicts the 29-year-old will sign a two-year deal worth $16 million with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.
“The Dallas Cowboys have major linebacker issues going into the offseason since Eric Kendricks is set to be a free agent,” Mosher wrote. “DeMarvion Overshown is likely to miss most of the 2025 season with a knee injury.”
“That leaves just second-year player Marist Liufau at linebacker,” Mosher added. “Spillane could be a Day 1 starter for the Cowboys after back-to-back strong seasons in Las Vegas. Spillane isn’t the most athletic linebacker, but he makes every tackle and doesn’t ever come off the field.”
Spillane has been one of the most consistent contributors for the Raiders over the last two years, as the former undrafted free agent totaled over 140 tackles in 2023 and 2024 and also posted over 50 defensive stops in both years.
Though Spillane struggles in coverage, the former Western Michigan standout is a stout run defender who plays with passion and calculated aggression on every single snap.
The Cowboys are slated to have negative $2 million in cap space this offseason, per Over the Cap, but can save a ton of money by restructuring contracts and making other moves.
If the team has the resources to sign Spillane, Dallas should bring in the veteran linebacker to start in the middle of their defense. The unit needs an identity and will need to step up in 2025. Signing Spillane to an affordable contract to serve as a pivotal starter on Matt Eberflus’ group would be a savvy move by owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
Losing Spillane would be a major blow to Patrick Graham’s defense, as the star linebacker has been one of the primary leaders of the unit over the last few years and provides a ton of value. Replacing Spillane will be a tall task, but general manager John Spytek has $92 million to work with in free agency and also has a plethora of draft selections.
