Regis Prograis thinks that Devin Haney isn’t washed up, but he says he won’t defeat Ryan Garcia. He recommends that Haney not take the rematch with Kingry unless he’s just “trying to cash out.”

It would be insane for Devin to fight Garcia again without at least one tune-up to rebuild and see where he’s at neurologically. Kingry had Haney all over the place, dropping him six times in their fight last April, although the referee counted only three of them. The popular Southern California native hurt Devin whenever he wanted, and it looked too easy.

Tune-up Needed

If Dev takes a tune-up against a soft puncher, he’ll discover if he can still take a decent headshot without hitting the deck face first. He can regain some of his self-confidence that might have been lost on that night against Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Haney’s decision to sit out for a year during Ryan’s suspension makes many fans believe he’s waiting on him before he fights again. Is Devin (31-0, 15 KOs) waiting on Garcia to get that lucrative rematch, or does he want the time off to rest after the thrashing he took in his 12-round majority decision loss on April 20th?

If there’s fear there on Haney’s part about whether he can handle getting hit by even a scribe, it makes sense for him to stay inactive and wait for Kingry’s one-year suspension to end in April. The last thing Devin needs is to get knocked out by some obscure ham & egger and lose out on the Garcia rematch forever.

“He’s not shot, but I don’t think he’s going to beat Ryan,” said Regis Prograis to YSM Sports Media about Devin Haney fighting a rematch against Ryan Garcia. “He got his a** whooped by Ryan, and that’s always going to be there. No matter what Bill says, that’s always going to be in the back of his mind. ‘Damn, he really beat me.’

“I don’t think they are, and I don’t think they should fight Ryan next. I think they should do a tune-up to see, and see how he [Haney] does and then go from there. The only way they would do that [fight Ryan next] is if they’re trying to cash out, and get a crazy amount of money,” said Prograis.
