Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal were among the giants not afraid to splash the cash.

And global fees hit a staggering £9bn after a record 86,158 international deals were completed last year.

That figure increased by 50 per cent compared to 2024, while English sides pocketed £1.3bn in sales.

Alexander Isak was the most expensive signing last year, thanks to his £130million move to reigning Premier League champions Liverpool.

The Swedish marksman, 26, sealed his Anfield switch after going on strike at Newcastle.

Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike completed the top three most costly arrivals in 2025 following Liverpool’s summer spending spree.

And Luis Diaz’s £65m exit for Bayern Munich was the highest figure clinched by a Premier League side when selling abroad.

Manchester United spent big in 2025 – with Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo heading to Old Trafford for a combined £145m.

Nick Woltemade proved to be Isak’s replacement, alongside Yoane Wissa, after a £69m deal was reached with Stuttgart in the final days of the summer window.

And Arsenal dipped into the market for Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres for their title tilt.

The most expensive transfer not involving Premier League clubs was Victor Osimhen’s £64.8m move from Napoli to Galatasaray.

There were also 2,440 moves in women’s football, which was an increase of 6.3 per cent.

It has been revealed that there was a total spend of £20.7m.
