The Dallas Cowboys are entering the 2025 NFL Draft with several positions that require attention, including cornerback, defensive tackle, running back, and wide receiver. With the arrival of new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the franchise is attempting to rebound from a disappointing 2024 season, which saw them finish with a 7-10 overall record.
Based on the recent trends, the passing game has become the emphasis for “America’s Team” over the past few years. But with quarterback Dak Prescott in the middle of his prime, the Cowboys are in dire need of another weapon on the outside next to All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb.
According to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton, the University of Arizona wideout Tetairoa McMillan is the answer to that need at the No. 12 overall pick. The 2024 consensus All-American is a polarizing prospect due to concerns about his speed and lack of commitment to the sport. Moton, however, argues that McMillan’s ceiling and fit on the Cowboys’ current roster are too good to pass up.
“Last offseason, the Cowboys signed Prescott to a four-year, $240 million extension. Now, they should do everything possible to get their money’s worth out of the three-time Pro Bowl signal-caller,” Moton said. “Dallas needs a stronger presence at the No. 2 wide receiver spot. Tetairoa McMillan could be the big-play complementary receiver to CeeDee Lamb.
At Arizona, McMillan averaged at least 15.6 yards per catch in all three of his collegiate campaigns. At 6 foot 5, 212 pounds, McMillan could become an immediate red-zone threat, which is critical for a Cowboys team that finished 31st in red-zone scoring percentage last season. The Ringer’s Todd McShay said he’s heard ‘a lot of noise’ about McMillan going to Dallas at No. 12, and the fit makes sense considering the club’s recent passing trends.”
Overall, the Cowboys have to get this first pick right. The NFC East is as competitive as ever, and if “America’s team” does not select several players this draft who will make immediate impacts at the next level, then the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders are going to continue to distance themselves. This is a sink-or-swim year for the Cowboys, and the franchise will have to answer many awkward questions if it has another season like 2024.
