Plant Warns Resendiz: “Reality Will Hit”

Plant Warns Resendiz: “Reality Will Hit”

Caleb Plant says his opponent, Jose Armando Resendiz, knows what’s in store for him this Saturday night in their headliner on PBC on Prime Video. He says that when the bell rings, “reality will hit’ Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs).

Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) will defend his WBA interim super middleweight title against underdog Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs) in their 12-round contest at the Michekob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. During much of the build-up for the fight, Plant has focused on his “Revenge Tour” narrative.

Protecting the Canelo Rematch

Plant’s goal is to get a rematch with Canelo Alvarez to avenge his loss. He’s talked about that a lot during the promotion for Saturday’s fight. He’s using Resendiz as a stepping stone to gett the second fight against Canelo, which will be another lucrative one.

Choosing the middleweight Resendiz is a way for Caleb to increase his chances of winning long enough to get the rematch with Alvarez. If Plant fought some of the young, talented contenders at 168, like Christian Mbilli, Edgar Berlanga, Diego Pacheco, and Osley’s Iglesias, he could lose. That would mess up his “Revenge Tour.”

“The plan is for Charlo for him to do his thing, get his hand raised, and for us to run it this year,” said Caleb Plant to the media about him and Jermall Charlo needing to win their fights this Saturday night to meet later this year.

“I haven’t really said anything in this camp, so maybe he’s trying to find some extra motivation. That just motivates me more,” said Plant when told that Armando Resendiz says he’s been doing a lot of talking about him to the media.

Plant actually has been doing some trash-talking, saying that he’s going to “step on” Resendiz, among other things. ‘Sweethands’ Plant must be losing his memory in his old age, because he’s been criticizing him. Even if he weren’t, all the talking that Caleb is doing about fighting Jermall Charlo next is a sign of disrespect toward his opponent, Armando. He’s looking past him and viewing the win as already in the bag.

Plant Warns Resendiz: “Reality Will Hit”

“That he knows it,” said Plant about Resendiz, knowing that he’s the best opponent he’ll have ever faced in his career. “I don’t know if it hit reality yet, but it will when the bell rings.”

It’s a good idea for Plant not to get too cocky ahead of his fight because Resendiz is a lot younger than him, and he’s going to be putting a lot of pressure on him early.

Plant looked vulnerable early in his last fight against little-known Trevor McCumby, and was dropped hard in the fourth. Luckily for Caleb, McCumby had no inside game because he lacked the power or speed to deal with his outside game.
