Plant vs. Resendiz and Charlo vs. LaManna – Official Weights for Saturday

WBA interim super middleweight champion Caleb Plant and challenger Jose Armando Resendiz weighed in successfully today for their main event fight on Saturday, May 31st. This is a fight that Caleb cannot afford to lose because he’s got a PPV clash against Jermall Charlo that comes next.

Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) is on his ‘Revenge Tour,’ looking to pick up his second consecutive win since losing to David Benavidez in 2023.

Jermall Charlo’s Prime Form & Trash Talk

Plant could be overshadowed by the performance of former two-division world champion Jermall (33-0, 22 KOs), who looks in excellent shape and in prime form, given the trash-talking he’s done ahead of his fight against Thomas LaManna in the 10-round co-feature. Both fighters made weight today.  Their event will be shown live on PBC on Prime Video this Saturday, May 31st. It starts at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT.

Weigh-in results

Caleb Plant – 167.2 vs. Armando Resendiz – 167
Jermall Charlo – 167.4 vs. Thomas LaManna – 166.6

“A clear victory. If he makes the wrong move, I’m going to knock him out. If he don’t come to fight, I’m going to knock him out,” said Jermall Charlo to Main Event about his opponent, Thomas LaManna on Saturday. “LaManna is going to tap out first. Who is going to survive the longest? Probably that vato [Jose Armando Resendiz] that is fighting Caleb Plant.”

Charlo didn’t show much power in his last fight against Jose Benavidez in 2023. That’s a guy that he should have been able to stop, given that welterweight Terence Crawford knocked him out. He’s not nearly as big or as powerful as Jermall, yet he stopped Jose.

“It’s fight time. We’re both locked in. You could tell,” said LaManna to Main Event. “I’m in that zone. I’m not going to say added pressure because I’ve got 40-something fights. Of course, he’s the biggest name. It’s the biggest opportunity,” LaManna said about his opponent, Charlo. “I fought for a world title.”

LaManna’s Confidence vs. Charlo’s Power

LaManna didn’t say what game plan he has to pull off the upset. He could be wasting his time if he plans to outbox him. The fighters that have given Charlo problems in the past were the ones who came to slug with him.

“Real confident. I’ve got a great game plan,” said Thomas about how confident he is of beating Jamall. “He’s been off. One thing I’ve got is momentum. I know how to make proper adjustments. I am going to make proper adjustments as I said up there, by any means.”

LaManna looks small and thin for a super middleweight. It’s hard to believe he’s fighting in this weight class because he looks frail in comparison to Charlo.

“The key to success is activity. So, I think being active is important, but it’s not the only thing. I’m not going to beat him just by being active. We just got to find out. We got to let the fights happen,” said LaManna.
