Caleb Plant says he wants to put on a “good performance” in his headliner fight against Armando Resendiz on May 31st, and then start picking off the top fighters at 168 “one by one.”

Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) will be defending his WBA interim super middleweight title against Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs) in a 12-round fight on PBC on Prime Video from Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The event starts at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.

Charlo or Berlanga Next?

Caleb says that if he’s victorious, he plans to target Jermall Charlo or Edgar Berlanga next. Jermall (33-0, 22 KOs) is fighting in the 10-round co-feature against Thomas LaManna on the May 31st card. It’s still too early to know if Plant will fight Charlo next, as a bigger fight could emerge.

Last September, Plant knocked out Trevor McCumby in the ninth round to win the WBA interim 168-lb title on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs.  Berlanga.

“I want to put on a good performance on the 31st. If [Jermall] Charlo is able to get past his test [Thoma LaManna] and win, beat him in impressive fashion,” said Caleb Plant during today’s virtual press conference for his fight next month against Armando Resendiz on May 31st.

Resendiz, 26, isn’t ranked at 168, as he fights at 160. He’s got the punching power to give Plant problems if he doesn’t fold. His two losses came against Elijah Garcia and Marcos Hernandez.

Fight Edgar Berlanga, step on him, and fight Jaime Munguia, Diego Pacheco, or any of the other guys that are up there,” said Plant.  “Keep picking them off until my name is cemented and I’m in the Hall of Fame. That’s the goal, that’s the dream. You can only do that one fight at a time.

“What Charlo has going on has nothing to do with me. My focus is on Armando Resendiz. I’ll let them figure that out, and I’m going to figure out the fight between me and Armando. Then we’ll go from there. Yeah, I’ll keep picking them off one by one,” said Plant.
