Piastri opens up and Silverstone puts on a show

That Oscar Piastri has become a frontrunner in Formula 1 is not a surprise. A brilliant junior career and flashes of his potential in 2023 showed that he could become the formidable championship challenger we are seeing in 2025.

But the cool Australian is not always easy to read. Come success or failure, his demeanour remains largely the same.

So what is he really thinking? We decided to find out, and McLaren obliged by allowing Jake Boxall-Legge to head to Woking to interview the 24-year-old for this issue.

Piastri talks about his own development, rivalry with Lando Norris and his attitude to the title contest in our cover feature.

Despite switching its attention to 2026 early this season, Williams is still in the fight for fifth in the constructors’ championship. In the latest in our series of ‘state of play’ articles, Stuart Codling looks at the famous squad’s progress under James Vowles.

The new F1 rules arriving next year created much debate – and continue to do so. Ronald Vording assesses how things are really looking and outlines the measures that are being taken to try to avoid a Mercedes 2014-style domination.

‘Domination’ is a good word to describe Jim Clark’s 1965 season, which is being celebrated at this year’s Goodwood Revival. His second F1 title and record-breaking Indianapolis 500 success were just the headlines of a remarkably busy campaign that Paul Fearnley revisits this month.

Leonardo Fornaroli is one of the leading names knocking on the door of F1 and we interview the current F2 points leader in our Single Seater section, while Gary Watkins marks the upcoming 100th race in the World Endurance Championship by picking out its best 10 races so far.

Our expanded National section now encompasses the British Touring Car Championship. This issue also includes a special report on another superb Silverstone Festival, which celebrated 75 years of the world championship and featured several fantastic on-track battles.
