Peugeot announces Cassidy for 2026 WEC campiagn

Formula E star Nick Cassidy will join Peugeot’s World Endurance Championship Hypercar squad for the 2026 season.

The move confirmed on Monday is set to be part of a wider deal for the former Envision and Jaguar FE driver with Peugeot parent, Stellantis: he looks likely to race for the team hitherto known as Maserati MSG Racing in FE in 2025/26.

Cassidy is making a move to the pinnacle of sportscar racing in 2026 having previously raced in WEC in the GTE AM class: he contested six races in 2022 at the wheel of an AF Corse-run Ferrari.

The 11-time FE race winner was also a regular in SuperGT during his time in Japan, claiming the title sharing TOM’S Lexus with Ryo Hirakawa.

Peugeot Sport technical director Olivier Jansonnie said: “We are delighted to welcome Nick to the Peugeot programme.

“His experience in various disciplines, his technical approach and his speed make him a valuable asset for the team.”

Cassidy will get his first taste of the Peugeot 9X8 2024 Le Mans Hypercar during a multi-manufacturer test at Austin after this weekend’s WEC round at the North American venue.

Confirmation of Cassidy’s signing has come after a cryptic Instagram exchange between the driver and his new employer in the wake of the announcement in July that he would be leaving the Jaguar FE team early by mutual consent.

Peugeot suggested that now he had “a bit of time” on his hands, it would book him a ticket to Austin, adding, “Let’s chat 2025/26 @FIA WEC plans. You in?”

Cassidy’s recruitment by Peugeot is likely to be a part of a significant revamp of the French manufacturer’s driver line-up for what will be the fourth full season of its WEC engagement.

A number of its current roster are known to be out of contract at the end of the current campaign at a time when the market for drivers is buoyant with the arrival in the Hypercar class of Genesis next year and Ford and McLaren the season after.

Reserve driver Theo Pourchaire, who will also partake in the Austin test, appears to be in the mix for a full race seat.
