Pete Crow-Armstrong, Alex Bregman make MLB history with rare feat in Cubs’ rout over Braves

Pete Crow-Armstrong and Alex Bregman made MLB history on Wednesday night while leading the Chicago Cubs to a blowout win over the Atlanta Braves.

Crow-Armstrong and Bregman each had a home run, each had a triple and each had three extra-base hits in the 8-4 rout at Wrigley Field. That made them the first pair of MLB teammates to do that in the same game in nearly 70 years.

The last pair of teammates to pull that feat off was Willie Mays and Daryl Spencer for the San Francisco Giants in 1958, according to OptaStats.

Bregman came just short of hitting for the cycle in the win. He hit an RBI double in the opening inning to put the Cubs on the board first, and then got his solo homer in the fourth.

The best shot, though, came in the fifth. Bregman hit a two-RBI triple that just barely made it past Braves third baseman Austin Riley up the line. That put the Cubs up 6-0 at the time.

Crow-Armstrong got his home run first, also a solo shot in the third inning. He hit a second solo home run the seventh, too, and hit an RBI triple in the fifth inning just two batters ahead of Bregman.

The Braves added two runs in the ninth inning, off of a Mauricio Dubon double and an RBI from Sean Murphy, but their comeback started too late. The Cubs held on to grab the four-run win easily.

This post will be updated with more information shortly.
