FANS were left in stitches after a video of Barcelona stars arriving at their hotel ahead of their Newcastle clash went viral.

The LaLiga giants are set to face the Magpies at St James’ Park as both sides look to get their Champions League campaigns off to a flyer.

But it was perhaps not the glamorous welcome that Barcelona are used to when they arrived in the North East.

Crowds gathered as the Spanish giants were filmed leaving their team bus and walking into their hotel… with the logo of the Wetherspoons next door visible in the background.

Their hotel is located next to a Spoons on the Quayside next to the river Tyne, with fans joking that they have experienced the peak of British culture.

Fans joked the venue would provide some crucial amenities as the Spanish champions aim to enter the game at peak fitness.

One user on X joked: “Get some British tapas in lads.”

Another user suggested they try a British staple meal there, joking: “Spoons’ Thursday Curry club for the pre-match meal?”

There was also an element of Geordie pride in the responses.

Local outlets the Chronicle and Newcastle World both noted the Quayside venue as the best Spoons in the city.

One fan of the pub on X joked in the comments: “Best spoons in the country. Real recognises real.”

Another fan linked the visiting club to another Geordie staple, dubbing them “Greggscelona.”

Newcastle star Yoane Wissa ruled out indefinitely in major injury blow after dramatic £55m deadline day transfer

Fans cannot help but wonder if superstars such as Frenkie De Jong and Robert Lewandowski were aware of the chain before touching down on Wednesday.

Perhaps they will follow in Sandro Tonali’s footsteps, who ended up a famous patron of Wetherspoons after arriving from AC Milan in 2023.

One star who won’t be enjoying a cheap pint or a Thursday curry is wonderkid Lamine Yamal, who is unavailable through a groin injury sustained on international duty.

Newcastle are without new signing Yoane Wissa, who has been ruled out until at least October, but they will instead turn to new forward Nick Woltemade, who scored on his debut to hand them a victory over Wolves at the weekend.
