Paul vs. Chavez Jr. and Ramirez vs. Dorticos Lead DAZN PPV Event This Saturday

Jake Paul’s back in the ring this Saturday, June 28, headlining a DAZN PPV at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. This time, he’s fighting someone with a proper record — former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

The co-main sees Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez defending his WBA and WBO cruiserweight belts against Cuban veteran Yuniel Dorticos in a solid battle between two seasoned pros.

Main Event: Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) has built a respectable enough run for a fighter who started as an influencer. But he’s never been in with someone like Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs), a former world champion with over 60 fights under his belt — even if most of that belt is fraying at this point.

Chavez Jr., now 39 (not 29, as some press releases wrongly put it), came back last year after a long break and picked up two wins, including a six-round decision over Uriah Hall. Let’s not pretend those wins say much — but he’s still experienced, still tricky, and probably the most well-schooled boxer Paul has faced.

Whether Chavez Jr. actually turns up in shape is another story. He’s spent a good part of the last decade being unpredictable inside and outside the ring. But if he’s dialled in, Paul could have problems.

Co-Main: Gilberto Ramirez vs. Yuniel Dorticos

Zurdo Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has looked solid since moving up to cruiserweight in 2023. He’s picked up three wins in the division — handling Joe Smith Jr., stopping Arsen Goulamirian, and outpointing Chris Billam-Smith in a rough 12-round scrap last November in Riyadh.

That last one showed Ramirez can dig deep, but it also exposed him to some heavy punishment. Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs), at 39, isn’t the freshest fighter either — but he can still bang. Both of his career losses came to big hitters in Gassiev and Briedis, and he’s racked up three straight wins to earn this title shot.

Dorticos likely won’t outbox Zurdo, but if he doesn’t fade late, he’s dangerous. Ramirez doesn’t carry the same power as the men who beat Dorticos — so this could be close if it goes past the halfway mark.

Jake Paul Speaks

“I’m going against a former champion who conman Canelo couldn’t finish,” Paul said. “Chavez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, have the will and heart of the great Mexican fighters. On Saturday, I’ll knock out Julio and make Chavez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has.”

Subtle as always.
