PAUL SCHOLES snubbed Manchester United as he named his new favourite footballer.

The midfielder is a Red Devils legend but he has been less than impressed with the current crop.

He has not been hesitant in his criticism of Ruben Amorim’s side this season, suggesting the “quality is not there”.

Last night’s Champions League action was perhaps another eye-opener for Scholes, as he was able to watch world class talent on UK soil.

That’s because LaLiga champions Barcelona visited Newcastle, and won 2-1.

Marcus Rashford scored both Barcelona goals with his second a moment of magic as he blasted in a rocket from distance.

Yet Scholes was more impressed with Pedri pulling the strings in midfield.

So much so that he named the Spaniard his new favourite player.

Scholes shared a photo of the youngster on Instagram alongside the caption: “My new favourite player.”

He is a player Scholes’ former side United could do with, as the pundit pointed out the glaring lack of quality in the midfield department at Old Trafford.

Scholes said: “I don’t think the quality is there.

“Whatever two out of the four or five they have got in [midfield] – Casemiro, Bruno [Fernandes], [Kobbie] Mainoo – whatever combination he seems to try doesn’t seem to work.

“That’s a big issue. I thought all summer the absolute priority was a centre midfield player with legs, who can play and can control a game.

“The recruitment side went to buy forwards. That did need addressing, but did it need three of them? I’m not sure it did.”
