Patriots writer thinks trade for $96 million Eagles’ superstar could be coming

The New England Patriots have not added an elite pass catcher this offseason. However, they could still find one in the NFL Draft or through the trade market.

The Patriots were often linked to Tee Higgins, but he ended up signing an extension with the Cincinatti Bengals. There are still players they could target, and Patriots columnist Greg Bedard thinks the team will acquire a wide receiver and tabbed Philadelphia Eagles superstar AJ Brown as an option.

“Just like last offseason, I still believe in my bones the Patriots will find that receiver via trade, among the likes of AJ Brown and Brandon Aiyuk,” wrote Bedard. “The latter is the best option given the firesale in San Francisco, but he won’t be ready until at least midseason after major knee surgery.”

Brown had 2,995 yards, 24 touchdowns and a Pro Bowl selection when he played for Vrabel on the Tennessee Titans. He has been a 1,000-yard recivere every season of his career. He has 4,031 yards, 25 touchdowns and two Pro Bowl selections with the Eagles since he was traded.

Brown is one of the best receivers in the NFL and signed a three-year, $96 million extension in 2024. He will not be a free agent until 2030. The Eagles could surprisingly be willing to trade him to help out their salary cap. The Eagles have a very run-centric offense and could perhaps still dominate without Brown.
