Patriots urged to trade for $11.6 million playmaker to help Drake Maye

The New England Patriots have done everything they can this offseason to put playmakers around young quarterback Drake Maye.

New England signed veteran free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs and brought in Buffalo Bills receiver Mack Hollins.

The two receivers should be able to help Maye move the ball a little more down the field this season, but the young quarterback could use another tight end.

New England has two solid tight ends in Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper, but they could add another one to give the room a little more competition.

Enzo Flojo from ClutchPoints thinks the team should try to trade for Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet.

“Sure, wide receiver is the most obvious need. On the flip side, tight end isn’t far behind. Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper are solid veterans. However, neither is likely to be in New England’s long-term plans. Hooper is on a one-year deal, and Henry is approaching the twilight of his career. Enter Cole Kmet,” Flojo wrote. “The 26-year-old Bears tight end has three years remaining on his contract, with cap hits of $11.6 million annually. Chicago might be willing to part with Kmet. This is especially true with the emergence of other weapons. That makes him a prime trade candidate.”

Kmet has spent five years with the Bears, recording 2,592 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns in 84 games.

The Bears just drafted Michigan tight end Colston Loveland in the first round of the NFL Draft, so the team could move on from Kmet since they already found his replacement.
