The New England Patriots are looking to bounce back from a dismal 2024 campaign. So far, the franchise has had a very encouraging offseason, highlighted by the hiring of Mike Vrabel as the team’s new head coach.
In addition, the front office has added a lot of talent to this roster, particularly on defense. Linebacker Robert Spillane was one of those free agent acquisitions, signing a three-year, $33 million deal with the franchise. The 29-year-old, who is on his fourth NFL team, has found some stability with a New England team needing a leader on defense.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport ultimately named Spillane as one of the biggest winners from OTAs while relaying a quote from the former undrafted linebacker on playing under Vrabel. Spillane certainly seems fired up about working with his new head coach.
“It’s a full-circle moment being here,” Spillane said. “He (Vrabel) recruited me out of high school at Ohio State,” Spillane said. “He gave me my first opportunity with the Tennessee Titans eight years ago as an undrafted free agent. Just to be signed to be the middle linebacker here and to play meaningful snaps means the world to me.
I don’t want to let him down. He’s the type of coach that any player wants to play for. He encourages people to follow their dreams, to love their families, and to love football. What more can you ask for from a coach?”
The Patriots have a navigable schedule in 2025, with 12 teams that did not make the postseason the previous year. The stars are aligned for this franchise to take a giant step in the right direction, especially should Spillane continue his form from the past two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.
