Cruiserweight prospect Pat Brown says Jake Paul’s risky fight against Anthony Joshua “could work in his favor” with him scoring a big upset of the former two-time heavyweight champion. It would be a massive upset and lead to Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) getting other big fights against notable heavyweights.

AJ’s chin vulnerability

Joshua’s chin makes him vulnerable against the young, ambitious 28-year-old Paul if this fight comes off. AJ was knocked out badly by Daniel Dubois in 2024. Paul will be swinging for the fences against Anthony, and he could get lucky if you want to call it that.

Brown believes that Joshua is focusing on getting the biggest payday possible before retiring from the sport. The 35-year-old is on his way out, and a clash against Paul will earn him the biggest purse due to his popularity on social media.

The business side of boxing

“Boxing is a business. If it makes money, it makes sense. But then you say, ‘What about the health side? Jake Paul could be in danger.’ But then, he’s been calling these names out. Life’s hard. If you bite off more than you can chew, it’s your own fault, isn’t it,” said cruiserweight prospect Pat Brown to Pro Boxing Fans about Jake Paul wanting to fight Anthony Joshua.

Many fans are using Joshua’s second-round knockout of Francis Ngannou in 2024 as an example of what Jake Paul has in store for him against AJ. That was an extreme case. Joshua usually doesn’t stop his opponents in that fashion.

The reason he destroyed Francis in that manner is that the 0-1 novice foolishly turned southpaw in the first round and was immediately dropped by a right hand from Joshua. Ngannou never recovered from the knockdown and was stopped in round two.

“He [Paul] obviously needs to get humbled to stop him from doing this. But then it could work in his favor, and he upsets everyone, and all of a sudden, it’s the biggest upset in boxing. So, who knows,” said Brown. “AJ is on his way out. He’ll be looking for a massive payday.

Brown doesn’t understand Jake. Even if he were to lose to AJ, it’s not going to “stop him” from continuing to fight. He likes boxing, and this isn’t just about money. You can tell that Paul likes to compete. With his massive 28 million followers on Instagram alone, he’s going to make millions each time he fights, regardless of what happens against Joshua.

AJ’s Retirement Fund Fight

“It’s just horrible, but boxing is a business. It’s all about money, and as soon as people realize that, they won’t be all touchy and feely about it,” said Brown.

With the kind of purse that Joshua will receive against Jake Paul, he’s not about to turn it down in favor of fighting one of the top 15 contenders at heavyweight. AJ’s knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last year finished whatever ambition he had of becoming a three-time champion. Now that Joshua has given up hope of capturing another world title, he might as well fight Paul to get the biggest payday possible before hanging up his gloves.
