Pair of solo homers down Mets in the Bronx

The final game of the 2026 Subway Series was a well pitched game by both teams, starting with both Christian Scott and Cam Schlittler throwing quality starts.

Schlittler, who is one of the very best pitchers in the league, was as dominant as he has been all season. The 25 year old righty surrendered just one hit, a fifth inning Brett Baty double, en route to his 14th win of the season. He walked just two, and struck out eight, lowering his ERA to 1.95 on the season. He is truly excellent, and today was no different. He was only lifted from the game after getting hit with a comebacker on the leg in his sixth and final inning, though Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he will be okay.

Christian Scott, to his credit, was nearly as good as Schlittler on the day. He gave up three hits, also walked two, and struck out seven. Unfortunately for Scott and the Mets, two of those three hits were solo home runs; one by Ben Rice in the first inning, and the second by Austin Wells in the third inning. Scott, who also went six innings, sits with a very solid 3.76 ERA on the season after the tough luck loss.

As you can imagine by the shutout, the Mets were at their wits end offensively even after Schlittler was lifted from the game. They went down in order against Brent Headrick in the seventh, got a runner on by way of a Francisco Alvarez single in the eighth against Old Friend Paul Blackburn, and got a runner on in the ninth against closer David Bednar (a Bo Bichette single), but did not really come close to tying the game.

The Mets bullpen did their best efforts to keep them in the game after Scott left. Nate Lavander and Austin Warren both worked around walks in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively. It was a very well-pitched game, with the two solo home runs for the Yankees putting them on top.
