Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers were unable to make it out of the Wild Card round of the playoffs last season. It was an unfortunate way to end what had been a promising year.
Towards the end of the year, the Packers started struggling. They limped into the playoffs on two straight losses to the divisional rival Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears.
One of the issues that the team had in the playoffs came at the wide receiver position. With Christian Watson out due to the torn ACL that he suffered in the final game of the regular season, they didn’t have a threat to stretch the field.
Even with Watson on the field, the consistency simply wasn’t there. Watson has been injured throughout a vast majority of his career to this point and hasn’t played a consistent brand of football when he has been on the field.
With that being said, Green Bay has been predicted to bring in another weapon for Love in the form of a sleeper wideout who has caught 21 career touchdowns at the college level.
Ben Rolfe of Pro Football Network has predicted that the Packers will add Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
“The Packers’ wide receiver situation is an odd one because what they really need is a No. 1 receiver. The issue is that when they are on the board in Round 1, there is likely no clear-cut No. 1 available that they would feel confident about. Therefore, they may need to look at a Day 2 project with the upside to be a No. 1. Jalen Royals fits that bill nicely. He has the speed to stretch a defense and has proven he can win in contested catch situations. He is also a threat after the catch, and that means Royals is a Round 3 project pick that could be the developmental piece this offense needs over the next couple of years.”
Royals spent two years with and played in two seasons at Utah State. In those two years, he caught 126 passes for 1,914 yards and 21 touchdowns. He ended up with a career average of 15.2 yards per reception.
He could end up being the missing piece for the Green Bay offense.
Adding Royals would give Love another weapon. He may not be the clear go-to option that Packers fans wanted to see the team add, but he would be another quality piece for the wide receiver room.
