The Green Bay Packers have been relatively quiet this offseason compared to what their fan base was expecting. So far, only three outside players have been brought in to improve the team’s chances of competing for a Super Bowl during the 2025 NFL season.
Brian Gutekunst has added offensive lineman Aaron Banks, cornerback Nate Hobbs, and wide receiver Mecole Hardman in free agency. Both Banks and Hobbs should have impactful roles in 2025, while Hardman will be competing for a roster spot, a role within the offense, and a potential opportunity as a return man.
While the three moves could all end up paying off, the Packers were expected to get aggressive this offseason.
So far, that aggressiveness has not been seen. Green Bay is still a team to keep a close eye on when it comes to a potential trade.
Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team has named the Packers as a team that could “still shake up” the offseason by trading star cornerback Jaire Alexander. However, he also admitted that Green Bay might end up being forced to simply release the veteran defensive playmaker.
“A team might be willing to give up a Day 3 pick for Alexander, but they could also try to wait out the Packers, letting them cut their star corner instead of bringing him in on a much more affordable contract. Either way, don’t expect the star cornerback to be playing in Green Bay in 2025.”

Alexander is still more than capable of being an elite No. 1 cornerback when he’s healthy. Unfortunately, he has only played in seven games in each of the last two years.
During the 2024 season in the seven games that he played, Alexander was very productive. He racked up 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and seven defended passes. Those numbers show what he can still bring to the field.
At 28 years old, it would not be shocking to see a team swoop in and acquire him. But, the fact remains that the Packers seem motivated to move on from Alexander. Other teams may not be willing to give up any form of draft capital or take on the money that Alexander is owed to acquire him via a trade.
Only time will tell what happens, but Green Bay is expected to move on from Alexander one way or another this offseason.
