The options in free agency for former Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers have been gradually dwindling lately.

It now seems as if his only options, at least for now, are to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers or retire. He reportedly would prefer to play for the Minnesota Vikings in 2025, and while there is always a scenario in which they’re open to having him, they’re not interested in him right now.

Even though Rodgers had a meeting with the Steelers recently that went well, according to their head coach Mike Tomlin, and even though he had a throwing session with D.K. Metcalf, their new wide receiver, he may not want to wear a black and yellow uniform, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“I had somebody suggest to me yesterday, and I’m just sharing what I heard, what this person’s opinion is,” Florio said, via steelernation.com. “It’s not a fact. It’s not a report. But it’s someone who is in the ecosystem and isn’t a low-level employee. This is a high-level person with one of the teams. The opinion is he (Rodgers) doesn’t really want to play for the Steelers, and he’s waiting for Minnesota.”

If what Florio said is true, the Rodgers saga could continue deep into the spring.

Tomlin has said he’s comfortable with Mason Rudolph, who has proven he’s nothing more than a decent backup, as his starting quarterback, per ESPN. If Rodgers were to ultimately say no to Pittsburgh, it would have to turn to Rudolph in order to keep its unimaginable string of 21 straight seasons without a losing record alive.

He missed all of last season due to a meniscus injury, but he led the University of Michigan to the College Football Playoff National Championship just a few months prior to being drafted.
